Tour Host Profile
Coffee Pot Ranch has quickly built a loyal clientele for the hormone, steroid and antibiotic-free lamb, beef and pork raised on their ranch in Sheridan. Shirley Field and Bob Sorensen both come from a long family tradition of ranching. Shirley’s great-grandfather, Dexter Field, grazed sheep, cattle and horses on the Coffee Pot Range in the Colorado Territory in the 1850s. Her grandfather continued ranching in Colorado and today her uncle still uses the Coffee Pot brand. Shirley is proud to have Dexter’s original Coffee Pot branding iron, which appears on the label for their meat products. In 1998 Bob and Shirley bought the 20 acres in Sheridan that is now Coffee Pot Ranch. They currently have 15 cow & calf pairs, 20 sows and 30 ewes, along with a number of Australian Shepherds. They also lease an adjacent 15 acres for winter pasture. Pork is their best selling product, as their sows have two litters averaging 9 piglets each per year. This allows them to process up to 100 pigs a year for meat, while maintaining their breeding stock. Their Dorset and Hampshire ewes give birth to about 50 lambs per year, with a portion going to replace breeding ewes and the rest to meat and other projects. They raise 15 calves per year, which are grass fed and grain finished. They use no hormones, antibiotics or steroids on any of the animals raised for meat, and their closed herd guarantees that it is free of BSE (mad cow disease). Farm & Barn Tour Activities
